The purpose of this web log is to address the political position that explains what I like to call the Middle-Left values of open-mindedness, accuracy and common-sense. If someone has a good idea, give them credit for it. Make sure and consider all criticism carefully. Learn to listen first and foremost. And finally, if reliable information shows you are mistaken, say so.

Why Middle-Left? In my opinion the democrats are philosophically in the best position to lead this country. It is unfortunate that politics or other concerns prevent them from realizing their amazing potential.

The individual(s) who would be "best" to lead this country lie neither in the realm of left or right. There is no idealogical direction for which to place them in terms of left or right. Nor are the centrists as that connotes compromise between the two. Social freedom and economic freedom are both important, but the left and right only support one or the other, and wish to restrain one or the other. In short, we need a government that would not tell us who we can sleep with or marry AND not redistribute the wealth we earn. Obviously that represents a minutiae of the issues , but it is a good example. Neither democrats nor republicans will help you in both arenas.

As far as best "positioned" (whatever that means), I don't think that means the same as who would be best for the country.

However, given the choice between left or right, I will usually go right. Economic freedom can often afford you some degree of social freedom whereas the other way is not so probable.

You have excellent rebuttals. I agree that what I put out there cannot stand alone as "Middle-Left" unless I claim poetic license or "prose license" in this case. But yes, absolutely, I was recently told that there isn't much difference between an moderate republican and a southern democrat. As the weeks go on (I plan to write weekly articles) I think my position will become clearer to you. Unfortunately, I will be claiming my thoughts to be "Middle-Left " and depending on your point-of-view you may agree or disagree with that label. Being Conservative or Liberal is generally an imperfect match with Republican or Democrat, but for the most part, I will take advantage of those two term's common ground. I look forward to your comments.
