This is a weblog addressing the political middle-left. . . from my point-of-view, of course.
Can we move on?

Massachusetts will be allowing gay marriages! So what!? How far have we come, as a people who believe in non-discrimination? What exactly do people think non-discrimination means anyway? Gay people have been around for at least as long as the Bible passage that condemns them. In other words, this is no passing fad! Over much time and much persecution gay people have slowly made a place for themselves in society, albeit an alternative place.

If you think about how history has progressed, different, minority groups have been persecuted because of the color of their skin, their religious beliefs, their cultural or national differences, on and on. I submit to you that this is no different.

Oh my goodness, some of you might say, how can he compare national differences with differences in orientation? I say, how can I NOT! Some people believe in Nature vs. Nurture. Saying that gay people are created either because of the experiences in their lives or because they were born gay. Other people use the word "choice" to explain how gay people come about. I say WHO CARES how they were created. These are people who, as a group, are not bothering anyone, not forcing their way of life on people who don't want to live like them. In fact, they are just like the rest of us. Living, loving, likeing, disliking, creating, as it was said so well "pursuing happiness."

I suggest that you think of it this way: What if those who think being gay is unnatural or wrong, are correct? What do we have? Well, we have a fringe group that will continue to live as they do. Remember, they've been around since the start of civilization, so they aren't going anywhere. Some people think these people are a detriment to society "eroding the moral fabric" How is that possible when heterosexual divorce and infidelity are rampant in society. Wouldn't those occurrances be equally destructive to the "moral fabric?" How about other crimes? In fact, where would being gay ,rate on a scale with infidelity, adultery, being a dead-beat dad?

Now here's the tough one: What if those who think being gay is unnatural or wrong are WRONG? Think of the millenia of discrimination, abuse, torture and marginalization. Even in today's "enlightened" society people feel comfortable denying a person of the right to be with someone they love, to marry, have visitation rights in hospitals. Think about it. How would you feel if those "rights" were taken from you?? We protect the rights of animals by force of law, but we have no problem ignoring the rights of other human beings for doing nothing but being themselves.

For those of you who are long past this argument, thank goodness. For those of you who are not, consider carefully, what if you are wrong? I think this country has much more pressing concerns then who consenting adults should marry!

I will think we can move on, when you no longer feel it's nessecary to mark a post as "Adult Content" just because it's about homosexuals.

You may have noticed that I already solved the gay marriage "problem" in a previous post of mine.

Good point, I agree. Just being sensitive to those who do not!

After consideration, I've decided not to be so careful. Let everyone see!

Your damn right - homosexuality isn't necessarily an alternative lifestyle or a choice, and it's bizarre how long it's taking for that rationale to sink in. It's odd the way straight people see the sexuality of a gay man or woman before they see the rest of them - but let's be fair gay people are guilty of labelling people according to their sexual orientation too. I look forwards to the day when society forgets that some people once thought this was even an issue..

But what new devilish catagories will society come up with then? Maybe we'll be divided according to bondage preferences or wether your a missionary or doggy kinda' guy! There's always going to be something about our sexual behaviour that'll divide us all (publicly) into groups.
